The Potomac Marlins Parent Organization is a vital part of the smooth operation of the Potomac Marlins Swim Team. The parents that make up this group have been crucial to the immediate success of our team and have enabled us to hit the water in full stroke with the rest of the established teams in Potomac Valley.
The Potomac Marlins do not have a Board of Directors comprised of member or non-member parents. We are a coach run and coach owned team. During the initial planning stages of our team we met with a group of interested parents to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a Board of Directors. We determined that the system that would work the best with our vision was to have a Parent Advisory Group who volunteered their expertise in various different aspects of our team in situations which they thought they could be of service. When we run into situations where their help is needed we give them a call. Occasionally, we call a small meeting of interested parents together as a group to discuss larger issues and to get a greater diversity of opinions and ideas. As owners of the team, we take all ideas and suggestions to mind and try to make decisions that will benefit the most people and remain within the vision and goals of our team.
How do you become part of the PARENT ADVISORY GROUP?

The Potomac Marlins Parent Group is more than a sounding board. Some of the responsibilities of the involved parents include representing the Potomac Marlins at swim meets by timing, being an official, taking pictures, taking orders for team equipment, staffing team events, being chaperones for travel meets, policing locker rooms during practices, educating themselves about swimming, being cheerleaders from the stands, chauffeurs in car pools, editors for the newsletter, computer specialists, xeroxers, information disseminators, nutrition experts, sleep czars, psychologists, basketball coaches, hike leaders, party decorators, party organizers, party janitors, etc..
It's easy to see how important a strong parent group is to a successful swim team. Our team is about much more that learning how to swim fast. We believe that swimming fast is a by-product of the experience we hope to create with the Potomac Marlins. We hope that you will get involved and lend us the experience of your wisdom, creativity, and enthusiasm.
