Kevin grew up a part of the swimming community in Northern Virginia and has never strayed too far away. He began his swimming career in the NVSL at the age of seven, competing for Freedom Park and Vienna Woods. During his NVSL swimming career, Kevin was a part of a relay team that set an NVSL record that stood for ten years. He also swam for the James Madison High School swim team, while also competing in Potomac Valley.

Kevin continued his swimming career at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA. He was two time all-conference award winner and captain of the team his senior year. In 1992, Kevin was the conference champion in the 1650 freestyle and was a conference finalist eight more times in various events during his college career. Kevin graduated in 1994 with a B.A. in Political Science in 1994. Kevin also has a M.S. in Education from Old Dominion University, where he also served as the assistant swim coach in the 1996-1997 season.

Kevin began coaching in the summer of 1991 and has had the opportunity to coach at every possible level since then. Kevin came to the Potomac Marlins in the fall of 2001. Kevin has served as an assistant coach for two Potomac Valley Zone teams and in the summer of 2003, Kevin was selected as the Assistant head coach for the team that traveled to the Eastern Zone Long Course Championships. Kevin was the head coach of the Paul VI High School swim team from 2003-2007. During his tenure as head coach, the PVI men won the independent school state championships in 2006, with Kevin being named “Men’s Independent Coach of the Year” for Virginia. Both the men and the women were nationally ranked in 2006.

In addition to his coaching and parenting duties, Kevin currently teaches Social Studies at Broad Run High School in Ashburn.
