Matt was born and raised in Northern Virginia and has lived in the area most of his life. He began swimming competitively at the age of 6 in the summer league with the Montclair Seahawks. The youngest of four children, Matt followed his older siblings into year round swimming at age 7 and continued with it through high school swimming with the Dale City Amberjax, Quantico Devil Dolphins, NVFF and Curl Burke (Lee District) programs over his age group swimming career. Matt was recruited to swim at the United States Naval Academy and swam three years for Navy before hanging up his suit his senior year. His swimming specialty was middle distance (200 / 500 / 1000) freestyle. Matt is the father of 4 NVSL swimmers and 3 Marlins. Matt has a great deal of experience working one-on-one with swimmers and has a strong belief in improving stroke mechanics/technique to help improve speed. He began organized coaching with Streamline Aquatics in 2008. This is Matt’s second year working with the Marlins. Matt’s “day job” is in software development. |
