Coach Liu’s coaching experience began as Head Coach of the Dutchess County Devilfish for one year, one summer season with the Barnstable Y Makos age group program, and most recently spending two years as the Assistant Swim and Dive Coach for Marist College and the Head Age Group Coach for Marist Swim Club in New York. Tom was highly recommended to the Potomac Marlins by a good friend of Coach Bill who is the coach/owner of another successful USA team in New York, and the former General Chair of the Metro LSC. While coaching the age group program for Marist Swim Club, Tom consistently qualified swimmers for the Metro Junior Olympics meet and his age group swimmers were some of the fastest kids in the LSC. His knowledge of the sport, attention to the importance of a strong stroke technique foundation, and philosophical parallels with the Potomac Marlins make Tom an excellent addition to the program.

Coach Liu began his personal swimming career as a walk-on for Curtis HS in Staten Island, NY, where his potential was quickly realized, earning awards of "Most Improved Swimmer" and "Most Valuable Swimmer". Tom was very well respected amongst his teammates as was evident when he was elected as Team Captain his senior year. During his High School swimming career, Tom set four school records in breaststroke and sprint freestyle. Tom graduated from Vassar College in 2009 after swimming for four years and earning his B.A. degree in Science, Technology, and Society. During his college swimming career, Tom served as Men's Captain for three years, setting four breaststroke records, individual and medley relays.
