P.V.S. 18 & Under Championships
Lee District Rec. Center
Forty Seven Marlins swimmers competed in the PVS 18 & Under Champs on February 19, 20 & 21 coming off of a two week cycle which included a week off practice due to the recent snow storms. The jury was out among the staff as to how the previous and unavoidable practice plans would affect the team's performance. While some swimmers were affected more than others, the team still managed a respectable 53% best time performance.
Twelve Marlins swimmers emerged as the team's top performers with 4 and 5 best times. Leading the way was Chinquapin swimmer, Andrew Pickup. Not only did Andrew have a remarkable 5 best time performance, he also had the team's 2nd, 3rd, and 4th most time drop swims of the meet in the 100 Fly, 100 Back and 100 I.M. Awesome Meet Andrew. Way to Pick-it-up!
Swimmers with 5 best time swims
Dalton Chichester was at it again seeking the team spotlight with his 5 top time drop performances. Dalton's two best swims came in the 100 Back and 100 Breast. Don't get comfortable yet, Dalton! Keep up the great work and we LOVE the multi-stroke approach.
Brynn Feighery churned out 5 PRs (Personal Records) over the weekend with her top performance of nearly 9 seconds drop in the 200 I.M. Brynn credits the "extra support" from her dogs (below chart) as inspiration for her amazing meet performace. WOOF, WOOF! ( that's canine for GO! GO! or PULL! PULL! I forget?).
Michael Gay's 5 hard fought and well deserved time drops were topped by his outstanding performance in the 100 Back and 100 Breast. Fame was instantaneous. Nice swims! Future's so bright ya gotta wear shades!
Kyle Major's "5 star" time drop performance was perhaps the team's second most impressive and well rounded individual performance of the weekend. Kyle's significant and noteworthy time drops totalled nearly 19 and a half seconds with his most successful swims in the 50 breast and 200 Free. Nice work Kyle. Keep it up!
Chinquapin swimmers, Amanda and Lauara Wilcox have absolutlely NOTHING in common except, perhaps, the fact that they each had a fantastic 5 PR meet performance. Amanda's top two swims came in the 100 Breast and 100 I.M. and Laura sliced a very even and impressive amount of time all 5 of her events. Hope you can "duplicate" this AMAZING performance for the next big meet!

Swimmers with 4 best time swims
Elizabeth Ashley had a very nice meet with 4 time drops totalling over 12 seconds. All 4 swims were equally impressive and strong. Great meet Elizabeth! Tae Chang set 4 new PR's in similar fashion with significant improvement in each event. Congrats Tae! Mt. Vernon swimmer, Patrick Murphy, dropped time in 4 events but was most impressive in his 500 Free recording a milestone time drop performance while also establishing the meet's top time drop swim. NICE RACE Patrick! Also, hailing from Chinquapin, (and claiming my second favorite swimmer's last name), Will Salmon, had an outstanding mid-season meet performance with 4 best times. Will's best swims came in the 50 & 100 Breast and what makes them even more impressive was that he was swimming up-stream at the time! (OK, ok... I've heard all the fish jokes, puns and references possible, trust me....). Georgia Stamper rounds out the list of the team's top time drop performers. Georgia's 4 top times came in the 50 and 100 of both Free and Breast. Great meet Georgia, keep up the good work and you will always be on my mind.
(oh, please stop it already!)
Congrats to all Marlins swimmers who dealt amazingly well with the practice setbacks due to the storm and the non-rest week of practices priro to the meet. Your performance was inspirational to all. Thanks to the staff for getting everyone back on track.
Coach Barry Marlin ( Hey! like the fish? and you're a swimmer? Ha, that's funny....)
