2009 LC Age Group Champs Recap
The PVS 2009 Long Course Age Group Champs meet was held at Fairland Aquatic Center on July 23-26. Twenty-one Marlins swam in this year’s meet and I must say they swam very well. Out of 89 individual swims, 65 were best times which is 73% best times! Two swimmers smam a perfect six for six best times and two more swam five out of five best times.
Lauren Hensley was perfect in her meet with her biggest time drops coming in the 200 back (-5.25), 200 IM (-12.90) and the 50 back (-3.76). In addition to these 3 big improvements, Lauren also made finals in the 200 back (2nd), 100 free (6th) and the 100 back (2nd). Great meet Lauren!
John Macdonald also had a perfect meet with three swims over three seconds improvement. John’s biggest drops came in the 200 back (-9.28), 200 free (-4.19) and the 100 back (-4.92). Great job John, keep up the good work!
Evan Baker was five for five with three swims over two seconds improvement. Evan’s biggest time drops came in the 100 free (-2.32), 50 fly (-2.17) and the 100 fly (-2.70). Now that Evan is going to focus only on swimming we should see more great swims from him this winter!
Newcomer to the Marlins, Martin Javelosa swam very well. Martin swam five best times with a huge time drop of 19.33 seconds in the 400 free and big drop of 4.56 seconds in the 100 fly.
Four swimmers were almost perfect going five of six events with best times. Maxine Clifford did not have any big time drops but when you get as fast as she is we start measuring time drops in tenths of seconds. Maxine swam finals in 5 of her 6 events and placed in the top eight in all of them. Maxine placed 2nd in the 50 breast, 4th in the 100 free, 4th in the 50 fly, 7th in the 100 back and 2nd in the 50 free. Great meet Max!
Holly Jansen also had a great meet (and very happy parents). Holly had two swims where she dropped over three seconds. Her biggest time improvement came in the 100 breast where she dropped 4.57 seconds and in the 100 free where she dropped 3.34 seconds. Holly also made finals in two of her events placing 6th in the 10&U 50 breast and 7th in the 50 free. Great meet Holly and good luck at Zones!
Erin Johnson was the final swimmer to go five of six best times. Erin biggest improvement came in the 200 breast where she dropped 3.69 seconds. Erin also had three swims with improvement over two seconds, (100 breast, 200 free and 50 free).
Four other Marlin swimmers swam four best times. Eli Bass was a consolation finalist in three events, 100 breast, 200 IM and the 400 free. Good Luck at Zones Eli! Zoe Campbell had a nice swim in the 100 fly dropping 3.33 seconds and another good swim in the 50 foy dropping 2.15 seconds. Hyung Tae Chang went four for four with a nice drop in the 50 breast (-2.07) and the 100 breast (-2.69). Catherine Jin swam best times in all four of her events with her best swim coming in the 100 fly where she dropped 2.08 seconds. Great meet kids!
Laura Schwartz had a very good meet as well. Laura qualified for finals in all six of her events, placing in the top eight in all of them. Laura placed 8th in the 100 breast, 7th in the 100 fly, 2nd in the 800 free, 2nd in the 200 IM, 3rd in the 400 free and 4th in the 100 free. Laura biggest time drops came in the 400 free (-6.31) and the 100 free (-2.04). Good luck at Zones Laura!
Several other swimmers had nice swims. Jillian Bracaglia swam only one event at Age Group Champs but she made that one event count dropping 4.83 seconds in the 50 breast. (mom was very excited…just ask the lady sitting behind her). Katie Dingman had a very good swim in the 200 back dropping 6.34 seconds. Great swim Katie! Sean McCrone had two very nice swims. Sean dropped 3.20 seconds in the 200 free and another 4.83 second drop in the 200 back. Great job all of you!
