Giroux, Schwartz and Johnson
lead Marlins to 7th place finish at PVS Senior Champs

Quinn Giroux, Alex Johnson and Laura Schwartz lead the way for the Potomac Marlins at this year’s PVS Senior Championships held at George Mason University.  Giroux, a senior at Fairfax High School, went five for five best times. Quinn qualified for finals in three of his five events placing 3rd in the 400 IM         (-2.01), 13th in the 200 breast (-3.97) and 12th in the 200 IM (-.40).  Johnson, a senior at Annandale High School went five for five best times plus he added two additional best times in relay lead off legs.  Alex qualified for finals in three of his 5 individual events placing 11th in the 100 breast (-.33), 10th in the 200 breast (-3.85) and 9th in the 200 IM (-6.10). 

Laura Schwartz went four out of seven best times and qualified for finals in all seven of her individual events but elected to scratch out of two of those events.  Laura placed 7th in the 200 free (-4.05), 3rd in the 100 fly (-1.07), 9th in the 200 breast (-3.13), 9th in the 100 free (-1.00) and 1st in the 200 IM.  Laura also set a new team record in the 200 breast (2:25.21) breaking the old mark of 2:25.49 set by Casey Fimian in 2001.  Quinn, Alex and Laura will be moving on to compete in the Southern Zone Speedo Championship Series meet this weekend in Germantown, Maryland.

Several other Marlin swimmers had big improvements at Senior Champs.  Eli Bass dropped 2.21 seconds in the 200 IM and swam two out of three best times. Nick Campbell dropped 3.62 seconds in the 200 back and swam two out of three best times.  Anna Johannes dropped 4.47 seconds in the 200 back and set a new Disability American Record in her S-9 classification and Carolyn Rice had a nice time drop in the 400 IM (-5.00). Carolyn also swam four out of five best times. Maxine Clifford swam five out of six best times and Marissa Coughlin went a perfect three for three.  See chart below for complete results.
