January Distance Meet Recap
On January 2nd and 3rd, 2010 thirteen Potomac Marlins swimmers made the drive to the Lee District Rec. Center in Alexandria for the PVS January Distance meet. Six swimmers competed in the 1000 yd. freestyle on Saturday morning. Leading the Marlins time drop charge was Mt. Vernon swimmer Bridget Thompson. Bridget swam a personal best time of 13:29.21 in the event which was a whopping 28.91 sec. improvement for her. Great job Bridget! Learning to swim the longer races hard makes those 200’s and 100’s seem psychologically easier ! Keep up the good work. The next biggest time drop in the 1000 free came from Mt. Vernon swimmer Carolyn Murphy. Carolyn swam the distance in 13:01.96 which was a nice 4.16 sec. time drop. Two other swimmers to note were Andrew Golemon-Mercer and Harrison Sniady who both swim at Chinquapin and both swam the 1000 free for the first time. The 1650 is next guys!
Seven Marlin swimmers tackled the mile. Leading the Marlin Milers was Laura Schwartz who finished 4th overall with a personal best time of 18:27.21 with a time drop of 2.21 sec. Ariane Emerson also had a nice swim finishing 14th overall in a personal best time of 20:19.08 and a time drop of 3.03 seconds. Great job girls. Other swimmers who competed in the mile and finished in the top 16 were Eli Bass (15th), Maddie Carinci (14th), Ilana Lisann (12th in 13-14 age group) and first time milers Caleb Meindertsma (13th) and Rebecca Burke (11th in the 13-14 age group).
