Congratulations Anna!
Congratulations to Potomac Marlins swimmer Anna Johannes for her selection to the 12 member US contingent to the YOUTH PARAPAN AMERICAN GAMES (YPPAG). Anna has been a member of the Potomac Marlins since age 9 and currently swims in the Marlins morning program at GMU with Coach Steve Ercolano, who accompanied her to the selection meet in Canada at the end of July.
The July meet, held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from July 30 to Aug. 1, was part of the Can-Am series of paralympic swim meets (2 are held each year -- one in Canada and one in US). Unlike the one held this past March in Portland, Oregon, this particular meet was a "selection" meet, meaning that her performance at this meet determined whether or not she would be selected for the YPPAG. The meet was comprised of mostly Canadian and American swimmers, but there were teams from Mexico and Australia, and a few other countries.
Anna swam in 6 events (the standard IPC events for her classification -- 100 free, fly, back and breast, 200 IM, 400 free). Of those 6 events, she had 4 personal best times (100 fly, 100 free, 400 free, 200 IM). As a result of her stellar performance and history of such performances over the past several years, Anna was selected to be a member of the US contingent to the YPPGA to be held in Bogota Colombia in October.
Way to go Anna! We are very proud of you! Good luck in October.
