2011 PVS Junior Champs
March Madness rolled on with PVS Jr. Champs and the Marlin swimmers continued to flex their muscle. This year’s meet was held at George Mason on the same dates as Sr. Champs. Senior Champs took place in eight lanes while the Jr. Champs meet took place in another eight lanes. Both meets came together at night for the finals session. Each meet had two heats represented at finals and plenty of Marlin swimmers had qualified and were ready to perform! The Potomac Marlin swimmers scored 806 points for a 2nd place overall finish! Several Marlin kids were in the top 20 in the overall points standings including Katie Doherty (11th), Maddie Carinci (13th), Lauren Hensley (16th), Stephanie Clarke (18th) Katie Dingman (19th) and Marcus Quint for the boys (16th). The team had 67 Personal best at the meet out of 133 individual swims for a 50% best time performance. Below are the highlights.
Two Marlin swimmers stood out with 5 out of 6 best time performances. Daniel Okhovvat-Gilani had three swims with big improvements, 200 free (-3.09), 200 back (-3.58) and the 200 IM (-6.81). Daniel finish in 16th place in the 50 free, 8th place in the 100 back, and 7th place in the 200 back. Great job Daniel! Marcus Quint also had a very good meet. Marcus placed in the top 16 in four of his events, 200 free (13th), 100 fly (7th), 50 free (9th) and the 100 free (6th) and had his biggest time drop in the 500 free (-3.13). Nice meet Marcus!
Three Marlins had best times in four events. Will Steinhilber went 4 for 4 with his biggest drop coming in the 200 fly (-10.44) and he placed 5th in the 100 breast and 5th in the 200 fly. Pretty good for a breaststroker! Sean McCrone also went 4 for 4 with a very nice drop in the 1540 free of 5.58 seconds. Sean placed 11th in that event and also placed 15th in the 100 back. Keep up the great work Sean! Katie Dingman swam strong for the lady Marlins posting 4 out of 5 best times. Katie had big drops in three of her events, 100 fly (-4.00), 200 back (-3.00), and the 200 IM (-6.84). In addition to that, Katie place 13th in the 100 fly, 5th in the 200 back and 8th in the 200 IM. Awesome meet Katie, Coach Kevin was very proud!
Five Marlin swimmers posted best times in three events. Stephanie Clarke dropped 9.48 seconds in the 200 free for a 3rd place finish. Steph also dropped 4.15 seconds in the 200 fly for a 9th place finish and then dropped 4.33 seconds in the 200 IM for a 12th place finish. Nice job Steph! Katie Doherty swam 3 personal best at the meet with her biggest improvement coming in the 100 back where she dropped 3.93 seconds. Katie also placed 3rd in the 100 back, 6th in the 200 fly and 9th in the 200 IM. Great swimming Katie! Keeping pace with her big sister, Olivia Doherty also improved in 3 of her 6 events. Olivia had a huge time drop in the 400 IM (-10.46) for a 13th place finish. Nice swim Olivia! Madisyn Graham had three nice swims with a mega time drop in the 1000 free of 33.88 seconds! Madisyn placed 5th in the 1000 free and 11th in the 200 free. Keep up the good work Madisyn! And finally, Erin Schulte swam 100 % best times going 3 for 3. Erin placed 13th in the 200 free and 2nd in the 100 breast. Great swims Erin!
