RMSC LC Kick-Off - "Goin' LONG"
Potomac Marlins swam their way into spring in grand style at the RMSC LC Kick-Off meet. 91 Marlin swimmers competed in the meet making it the largest LC meet participation the team has ever had. As a staff, we hope this trend continues and our LC meet participation continues to grow! Since this was the first LC meet of our summer season it is a great tool to really see how much your swimmer(s) have improved over the last 8 months since their last LC competition. As you will see, there were some great performances by many of our swimmers and 1/3 of our swimmers were competing in their first LC meet. In addition to that, we also had some team records broken in the process!
Evan Baker (14) swam a perfect six-for-six best times with five of those swims resulting in time drops over 3.00 seconds. Evan crushed his previous best times in the 200 free (-8.44), 100 back (-5.92), 200 IM (-20.67), 100 fly (-6.20) and the 100 free (-3.94). Nicole Baker (13) was not far behind her older brother’s performance going five-for-six best times. Nicole dropped 6.39 in the 200 free, 3.89 in the 100 back, and 5.39 in the 200 IM. Great swims from the Baker kids!
Becky Burke (15) continued her amazing season dropping time in five of her six events. Becky dropped a whopping 18.56 sec. in the 400 free then went on to drop 5.16 in the 200 free, 5.52 in the 200 IM and 6.04 in the 200 Back. Hyung Tae Chang (11) also had a great meet dropping time in five of his six events. Tae dropped 13.87 sec in the 100 back, 5.42 in the 50 back, 5.79 in the 100 fly and 6.13 in the 100 free. Keeping pace with her little brother, Younga Chang (14) had a good meet dropping big time in three of her four events. Younga improved 9.04 sec. in the 100 breast, 9.25 in the 100 abck and a huge 15.59 in the 200 breast! Great meet all three of you!
Sinan Duran (16) swam 4 best times with very big drops in the 200 fly (-16.09) and the 200 IM (-26.96). Sinan also dropped time in the 100 back (-3.53) and the 100 free (-5.09) to round out a four out of six best time performance. Martin Javelosa (13) swam a perfect five-for-five at the meet with nice improvements in the 200 free (-7.54), the 200 fly (-9.19) and the 200 back (-3.27). Great meet guys!
Karina Kolb (13) was also a perfect five-for-five with an impressive drop in the 200 free (-19.05) and the 100 fly (-8.17) as well as a nice swim in the 100 back (-4.51). Another swimmer with a perfect time drop performance was Gabby Kuehhas (11). Gabby dropped 7.21 in the 200 free, a big 15.28 in the 200 IM, 4.65 in the 50 back and 6.71 in the 100 free. Great meet girls!
John Kost (14) has made tremendous strides in the past year. Take a look at his meet performance! John dropped 15.95 seconds in the 100 breast then went on to drop 130.77 seconds in the 400 IM for the meets largest time drop by far. John then swam the 200 IM where he dropped a measly 55.43 seconds and then rounded off his meet with a 16.66 second drop in the 100 free. What can you say except “WOW”! Keep it up Johnny!
Three more swimmers had five out of six best times at the meet. Jonathan Pollock (11) went ballistic in the 200 free dropping 24.58 seconds! Jonathan also had impressive swims in the 50 breast (-4.16), the 50 free (-3.46), the 100 breast (-8.60) and another huge drop in the 100 free of 15.63 seconds. The brother and sister duo of Eric and Julia Schwartz both swim five out of six best times. Eric (14) dropped 5.84 in the 100 breast, 5.69 in the 100 back, 14.64 in the 200 IM and 9.57 in the 200 breast from last year’s best times. Julia (14) had three nice swims of her own, dropping 6.16 seconds in the 100 breast, 5.49 in the 100 fly and 5.42 in the 200 back. Great meet you three!
Bridget Thompson(16) put together a good meet with a perfect five-for-five time drop performance. Bridget’s biggest drop came in the 200 free where she improved her previous best time by 4.82 seconds. Bridget’s other four swims were time drops of just under 3 seconds. Nice job Bridget! Caleb Yoo (14) also had a good meet dropping time in five of his six events. Caleb dropped 9.63 in the 200 free, 7.48 in the 100 breast and 6.36 in the 100 fly. And finally, Jennifer Zhou (14) rounds out our top time drop performances with best times in four of her five swims. Jen dropped 8.08 seconds in the 200 free, an impressive 11.80 in the 100 back but she saved her biggest time drop of the meet for the 100 fly where she improved 30.41 seconds! Great swim Jennifer!
As I mentioned above, we did have several team records broke at the meet. Jeff Gerber swam his first LC meet in style by setting new team records in five of his six events! Jeff set new marks in the following events, 8&U 50 breast (59.55), 8&U 100 breast (2:06.29), 8&U 50 fly (47.82), and 8&U 200 breast (4:39.78). The only other team records set at the meet were from Holly Jansen in the 11-12 girls 200 breast (3:06.04) and Dylan Major in the 8 & U 200 Back (3:36.60). Congrats to Jeff, Holly and Dylan on their new team records!
