What's NEW for 2011-12
SWIM WIN

  • Stroke Technique Instruction Guarantee: (for Junior Marlins and higher level programs). The Potomac Marlins strive to have the most technically proficient swimmers in the Potomac Valley USA Swimming league (PVS). While we cannot guarantee that all Marlins swimmers will develop an understanding of perfect stroke technique or ultimately be able to perform perfect stroke mechanics for all competitive strokes, the Potomac Marlins offer the following assurances:
    • Each swimmer will be taught all of the Potomac Marlins standardized drill progressions for each stroke (approx. 40 drills total = The "CORE 40"). Additional drills beyond the CORE 40 will also be taught.
    • Each swimmer will be able to execute all of these standard CORE 40 drills with proficiency.
    • Each swimmer will receive individual attention and CORRECTION on a recurring basis until proficiency is achieved and maintained.
    • Each swimmer will have access to Head Coaches, Bill & Barry Marlin for private technique instruction should ongoing efforts at practice require supplementation. Referral by the swimmer's primary deck coach is required for Head Coach technique assistance.
    • Noticeable and satisfactory improvement will be witnessed and acknowledge by swimmer and parents.
    • Swimmers with severe or genetic stroke technique issues which are difficult (or nearly impossible) to correct through verbal, visual or physical instruction/correction will be noted in writing to parents/swimmer.
  • Personalized Video Critique DVD offer for early registrants. All returning members who register prior to June 5th, and all NEW members who register prior to June 30th, will be eligible for a FREE personalized video critique by Coach Bill or Coach Barry Marlin. Requires swimmer/parents to film and submit video by August 31st, 2011. Slow-motion analysis and voice over critique.

Video may submitted via e-mail or on DVD via US mail to the Marlins mailing address.
    Video instructions:
    • Be sure to state swimmer's full name on tape at the begining of the film.
    • Make sure lane is clear of all other swimmers. Attempt to swim in middle of the lane.
    • Film only one swimmer, completley, at a time. (Do not alternate siblings).
    • Use end lane and film 25-50 meters of each stroke at medium pace.
    • Video works best if walking beside swimmer down pool with sun at camera's back. Hold steady as possible while walking.
    • Fill entire frame with swimmers body. Be sure to view full extension of body / arms & legs.
    • Do not use zoom.
    • Swimmer may rest between each 50.
    • Turns may be filmed separately if necessary.
    • Film may include 2-3 starts if desired.
  • Contact Coach Barry Marlin for further details.

  • Stroke Technique Clinics open to all registered members throughout the 2011-12 (Sept. - May) season. Locations, times & dates TBD. (See Announcements page).
