2011 PVS November Open
Meet photos from Mr. Dave Yarashus!
The PVS November Open meet proved to be yet another example of the progress our team is making over all. And let me tell you, the progress is in leaps and bounds not baby steps! Once again there were so many time drops of three seconds and greater that there were just too many to highlight. 144 Marlins took to the water on the weekend of November 4-6 at the Takoma Aquatics and Community Center in the District. Several of them stood out above the rest.
Eric Schwartz had perhaps the most impressive meet of the team and perhaps of his life (so far). Eric swam six out of seven best times and all of his PB’s were greater than three seconds! Two of his events he dropped over 12 seconds, the 200 fly (-12.61) and the 500 free (-12.99). He also dropped 9.44 seconds in the 200 back and another 8.17 seconds in the 200 IM. But Eric was not done yet. In his last two swims of the meet he dropped 5.88 seconds in the 200 free and the 3.95 seconds in the 400 IM. Awesome meet Eric!

Akanksha Alok and Dylan Major had terrific meets as well with both swimmers putting up 7/8 best times performances. Akanksha’s drops were all on the smaller side but that does not diminish the fact that she put up seven personal bests! Way to go Akanksha! Dylan also put up a 7/8 performance with one big drop of 4.27 seconds in the 50 breast and his other 5 PB’s were in the neighborhood of 2.0-2.5 seconds improvement. Great swimming Dylan!
Eight more of our kids swam 6 personal best times. Three of them were a perfect six out of six. Caleb Yoo, Han Gu and Katelyn Grealish all had perfect meets. Caleb’s drops were all on the smaller side between half a second and two seconds while Han had one drop of 9.71 seconds in the 200 breast, another drop of 6.29 seconds in the 100 fly and two swims where he dropped over three seconds, 100 back and 200 back. Katelyn had one big drop of 5.48 seconds in the 100 fly. Great swimming you three!

Five other swimmers went 6/8 best times with John Kost once again having the largest time drop of the meet when he improved two and a half minutes in the 1650! John also dropped 12.1 seconds in the 500 free and 5.3 seconds in the 200 free. Ciara Diederich had a great meet also with her biggest drop coming in the 200 free (-5.09) and two other nice drops in the 50 back and 100 IM. Meredith Miller was the final swimmer to go 6/8. Meredith had five swims where she dropped over two seconds with her two biggest drops coming in the 200 IM (-4.27) and the 200 free (-4.82). Zoe Campbell’s 6/7 performance included one huge drop in the 200 back (-16.72) and another nice drop in the 200 fly (-4.60). And finally Aiden Smith’s meet performance had two very nice time drops, the first one in the 500 free (-7.41) and the second one, a huge drop, in the 100 fly (-19.91). Aiden had two others swims where he dropped 2.5 seconds. Great swimming everyone!

Eleven more swimmers put up PB’s in five events. Hayley Alderman biggest drops came in the 200 IM (-8.46) and the 100 IM (-6.20), Ryo Arakawa had a huge drop in the 200 IM (-25.34) and another nice drop in the 100 IM (-7.27). Gavin Flanagan put up four huge swims. Gavin dropped 7.2 seconds in the 50 fly, 7.44 seconds in the 200 IM, 4.92 seconds in the 200 free and 4.09 seconds in the 100 fly. Very studley! Regan Glembocki dropped 7.22 seconds in the 200 IM and 6.25 seconds in the 200 back and she dropped nearly four seconds in the 100 fly. Ben Gryski was a perfect 5/5 at the meet with his best effort in the 100 IM dropping 5.26 seconds. A 3.58 second drop in the 50 fly isn’t too shabby either! Kelly Guerrero made a major move at the November Open by dropping 9.62 seconds in the 200 fly, 10.54 seconds in the 200 back and 13.53 seconds in the 400 IM. That’s some good swimming! Delaney Kennedy was 5/7 at the meet with a 10.58 second drop in the 200 IM and a 13.52 second drop in the 100 back! Kyle Major was 5/8 with a huge drop in the 200 breast of 29.62 seconds! Anne Merrill picked up where she left off at the October Open, dropping time in the 200 back (-10.02) and the 500 free (-12.41). Grace Obando went 5/8 and shaved off 4.7 seconds in her 100 fly and Jonathan Pollock went ballistic in two swims, knocking off 29.04 seconds in the 500 free and another 23.33 seconds in the 200 breast. Awesome job all of you!

Finally, I want to recognize the entire Yarashus family. All four swimmers had huge meets! Havalah was 4/4 with huge improvements in the 200 fly (-27.45) and the 500 free (-19.96), Sam was 4/4 with huge drops in the 500 free (-14.35) and the 200 IM (-19.07) and another nice drop of 4 seconds in the 100 breast. Zach was also 4/4 best times with big drops in the 200 fly (-7.63), the 200 IM (-13.39) and abother nice drop in the 100 back of 4.13 seconds. And finally, Ezekiel, who dropped 5.19 seconds in the 50 fly and a whopping 13.25 seconds in the 100 breast. Now that’s what I call a family affair. Nice job guys!
This was the team’s final prep meet leading into the December championship meets and it looks like we are still rolling full steam ahead. Coaches - Keep up the great work with everyone and we’ll swim fast in December! Congrats to all on a great meet!
