Autumn

“When the birds fly south,
And the wind blows cool,
And the green leaves on the trees turn red.
And the days grow shorter,
And the nights grow long,
And Jack Frost freezes grass dead,
Then summer is gone,
And Autumn has come”. (author unknown

Just like the leaves on the trees were falling to the ground, so were the times from many of our Potomac Marlin swimmers who competed in the PVS October Open.

From the Audrey Moore facility there were two swimmers that stood out above the rest in that group.  Garrett Downs improved his times in seven out of eight events posting time drops in four events over three seconds.  Garrett dropped 56.8 sec in the 500 free, 5.21 in the 200 breast, 3.01 in the 100 IM and 10.04 in the 200 IM.  Dylan Major also swam seven out of eight best times posting big drops in the 200 free (-8.02), the 50 free (-4.44), the 200 fly (-33.10) and the 100 free    (-3.26).  Great meet boys!

One other swimmer from Audrey Moore blew the leaves off the trees with his performance.  Allan Bartolome swam a perfect 4/4 at the meet with big time drops in all four events, 100 back (-10.44) 50 breast (-8.28), 50 free (-4.41) and the 100 IM (-12.91).  Great job Allan!

In the afternoon Senior group, there were two swimmers that achieved personal best in 6 of their events.  Martin Javelosa swam six out of six best times in his events and though none were greater than three seconds it is still a very good accomplishment.  Harrison Sniady swam 6/8 best times with three big time drops that came in the 200 back (-7.96) the 1000 free (-18.58) and the 200 free (-6.18).  Nice meet boys!

Anne Merrill also had a good meet.  After missing much of last season’s meets with an appendectomy, Anne bust back on the scene sending a clear message that she is one to watch in the next few years.  Anne posted best times in five of her eight events and dropped significant time in three of those events, the 200 free (-8.23), the 100 fly (-4.73) and the 200 IM (-4.53). Great meet Anne!

Times were not just falling from our central sphere, they were also falling in the east.  Twenty swimmers from Chinquapin attended the meet and swam best times in twenty out of thirty swims (66%).  Three swimmers from Chinquapin shone bright in the early October skies.  Nick Ambrose swam four personal bests of out five swims with three very nice swims to note, the 200 back (-7.25) the 100 fly (-8.83) and the 200 IM (-3.90).   Jay Falk was a perfect 3/3 as she raced to big time drops in all three events, the 100 breast (-7.35) the 50 back (-3.30) and the 100 free (-7.43). Our third swimmer from Chinquapin that swam great in all her events was Laura Wilcox.  Laura swam best times in all four of her events with nice time drops in all of them.  The three to note are the 200 back (-9.19), the 200 IM (-3.10) and the 500 free (-19.16).  Way to go you three, keep up the great work!

The Cub Run Evening group is our largest group on the team and we had quite a few swimmers with great meet performances and several more with a couple swims that resulted in big time drops.  For the sake of brevity I will highlight the kids that swam a minimum of five best times but that does not diminish what the other four kids did that dropped time in 4 of their events.

Arakawa

Ryo Arakawa was a perfect six for six posting big improvements in five of his events. Ryo dropped 12.37 sec in the 200 breast, 18.53 sec in the 200 free, 5.15 sec in the 100 fly, 5.96 sec in the 100 breast and 7.96 sec in the 100 free.  Awesome swimming Ryo!  Anthony Arcomona posted two very nice swims in his five out of seven best time meet performance.  Anthony dropped 3.61 sec in the 100 back and another 18.88 sec in the 100 fly. Ben Barbee was 5/7 at the meet with huge drops in the following events, the 500 free (-28.16), the 200 breast (-17.81), the 200 fly (-13.66), and the 100 breast (-6.06)  Nice swimming boys!

ArcomonaBarbeeMarcey

Warren Breiseth had six personal best at the meet out of eight attempts and dropped over three seconds in four of those events.  Warren’s big drops came in the 500 free (-17.55), the 200 free (-4.29), the 100 fly (-12.96) and the 100 breast (-3.35).  Brothers Brody and Kellen Campbell each swam a perfect 6/6 at the meet!  Brody’s best efforts came in the 200 back        (-26.19), the 500 free (-70.47), the 100 back (-7.47) and the 100 IM (-5.35) while Kellen almost duplicated that effort with his big drops in the 200 back (-13.47), the 500 free (-57.22), the 200 free (-4.21) and the 100 IM (-6.29).   Great meet guys!

Of all the swimmers on the team that swam in the meet, only two swimmers swam a perfect eight out of eight best times.  That honor goes to Ben Gryski and Georgia Stamper! Ben blew away his best times like a leaf blower on a pile of leaves!  Ben’s top three time improvements came in the 200 back (-14.00), the 200 free (-4.61), and the 200 IM (-4.83).  Ben averaged about a two second drop in his other 5 events.  Absolutely an awesome meet Ben!  Way to go! Georgia Stamper took top honors for the girls posting best times in eight out of eight events!  Georgia dropped 6.93 sec in the 500 free, 16.47 sec in the 200 breast, another 8.31 sec in the 100 breast and 4.72 sec in the 100 free.  Definitely some sweet swimming from you two!  Keep up the good work!

Katelyn’s big drops came in the 200 back (-5.12), the 500 free (-47.75), the 200 free (-11.52) and the 100 IM (-3.17).  Keep up the good work! Han Gu posted five top times with three major time drops that came in the 200 free (-4.88), the 200 IM (-4.12), and the 200 fly (-11.75).  Matthew Guo was a perfect 6/6 at the meet dropping 7.18 sec in the 200 free, 4.05 sec in the 100 free and 24.67 in the 500 free.  Blake Marcey also cranked out five personal best with two big time drops in the 200 breast (-6.29) and the 200 IM (-12.27).  And finally, John Henry Stamper continued his personal assault on his best times with a perfect 6/6 meet performance.  John Henry dropped major time in five of his six events.  John Henry’s performance included a 4.00 sec drop in the 50 breast, a 3.77 sec drop in the 50 free, an 8.59 sec drop in the 100 IM, a 4.66 sec drop in the 50 fly and a 4.91 sec drop in the 100 free.  What an outstanding effort from all of them, Congrats.

The Potomac Marlins are off to a great start to our season. Keep working hard and coming to practice when you are supposed to and hopefully we’ll be reading your name and outstanding swims in the next meet results article.  Thank you to all the parents who helped work the meet. We truly appreciate your support and we can’t have this kind of success with out you!

See you all on deck soon.
