2009 Sport Fair Winter Classic
Team Selection Process

The Marlins December culminating meet is the Sport Fair Winter Classic, which is a “team selection” meet. Per meet rules, we are limited to entering a maximum of 80 swimmers in the meet. The following eligibility criteria shall be applied by the staff in selecting the Marlins Winter Classic squad:

1. The cut-off date for consideration of times will be the conclusion of the 2009 November Open Meet.  All times for selection consideration will be from Jan. 2009 through the Nov. Open meet.  Event selection DIVERSITY through the November Open is recommended for maximum point potential. Contact deck coaches for further details.

2. Swimmers having achieved a time equal to the 2009 Tom Dolan Invitational standard (3 events minimum) will be selected. (Qualifying times must be in the age group that you are in as of Dec. 10, 2009)

3. Swimmers having a current PVS 2010 Junior Olympic qualifying time (3 events minimum) will be selected. (Qualifying times must be in the age group that you are in as of Dec. 10, 2009)

4. Using the Hy-Tek meet system, all swimmers will have a point value assigned to every individual event in which they have a time. Using the Hy- Tek scoring system, the coaches will pick 80 swimmers for the meet. The goal of the selection process is to field a team of 10 swimmers in each age group and gender, however, the staff reserves the right to take as many or as few in each age group/gender in the best interest of the team. A list of all current swimmers and the Hy-Tek scores will be posted to the web site by October 1, 2009.

5. For each age group, we will also consider the needs of the team for relays, etc. We will also be looking at the developmental needs of our younger swimmers. (Are they “ready” for this type of meet?).

6. Other factors considered in the selection process will be your swimmer’s practice attendance, meet participation and the recent health of swimmer. Swimmers who are injured, recovering from illness or who have had discipline problems within the team structure may be excluded from the meet.

Please keep in mind that in all youth sports, it is always difficult to have the “perfect” system in a “selection” process. The staff feels confident that the selection process to be used for the 2009 Sport Fair Winter Classic squad will be fair and equitable.
