. . . and Junior Marlins

Team Schedule & Fees Information

The Potomac Marlins Developmental program is designed to provide young swimmers (Ages 4 - 8) with basic competitive swimming skills essential for continued involvement in the sport of swimming. The Developmental program consists of two distinct groups defined by ability, age, and skill level. Together these groups form the foundation of the Potomac Marlins future team.

Mini Team Practice The first group is called the Mini-Marlins and is comprised of beginner level swimmers who practice once a week for 45 minutes. The primary goal of the Mini-Marlins program is to prepare our young swimmers by introducing them to some of the various competitive aspects of the team and the sport of swimming. Basic swimming skills are taught with an emphasis on developing proficiency in freestyle and backstroke. Mini-Marlins are also exposed to drills and terminology used within the Potomac Marlins Team program. The more advanced Mini-Marlins groups are introduced to the remaining competitive strokes, breaststroke and butterfly. The advanced groups are also taught skills necessary for participating in a team practice environment such as, reading the pace clock, understanding and performing basic workout sets and terminology, and introduction to basic start and turn skills. Advanced Mini-Marlins are encouraged to participate in several Mini-Meets during the short course season.

Rachel & Christopher The Junior Marlins consist of advanced beginner swimmers ages 6 - 8 who are selected by the Developmental Team Coaching Staff to supplement their developmental practice with a one time per week regular practice session with the Potomac Marlins weekday practice groups. The primary goal of the Junior Marlins program is to integrate the swimmer into the weekday team practice program one time per week while continuing to receive more individualized stroke technique practice with the Mini Marlins on the weekend. Junior Marlins must be selected by the Developmental team staff and approved by the Head Coaches, Barry & Bill Marlin. Placement of Junior Marlins within the team practice group is subject to availability. In the event that additional team practice space may be acquired during the week the Junior Marlins may initiate a weekday practice group of their own under the direction of the Developmental team coaching staff.

Jayme & Hannah Developmental Team classes are kept small (8 - 10 max.) with a minimum of one certified coach/instructor and one Potomac Marlins Senior level (15 & Over) swimmer assistant per group. Each class is comprised of swimmers of similar ability levels ranging from learn-to -swim through more advance swimmers capable of performing basic skills for all four competitive strokes.
