Base Ability Level Requirements

Swimmer must be able to complete the following base level training sets for acceptance into the specified practice group.

Base Ability Level is the primary consideration when accepting and placing swimmers into practice groups.

The Potomac Marlins are an ability based program.

1 x 25 Free without stopping

OR

1 x 25 Back without stopping

1 X 50 Free & 1 X 50 Back without stopping

Ability to do a forward start from the blocks

Understanding and performance of symmetrical Breaststroke and Butterfly kicking motion.

10 x 50 Free on 2:00

6 x 50 Back

6 x 50 Breast

 

1 x 100 IM without stopping and reasonable performance of all strokes.

10 x 50 free on 1:00

4 x 100 IM on 2:20

6 x 50 Kick on 1:20

And two of the following

6 x 50 Back on 1:05

6 x 50 Breast on 1:10

4 x 50 Fly on 1:10

10 x 100 free on 1:35

4 x 200 IM on 3:30

6 x 100 Kick on 1:55

And one of the following:

6 x 100 back on 1:40

6 x 100 Breast on 1:50

4 x 100 Fly on 1:50

12 x 100 Free on 1:20 - Girls on 1:15 - Boys

3 x 400 IM on 6:30

10 & U "B" times in the stroke 50's & 100 I.M. Compete in a 200 & 500 freestyle.
"A" times in stroke 100's & 200 I.M. "BB" times in 200 stroke events & 400 I.M. "BB" time in 1000 or 1650 free.
"A" times in stroke 100's & 200's and 200 & 400 I.M. "A" times in 1000 or 1650 free.
Bio-Mechanical Adeptness
25 Free, 25 Back
50 Free, 50 Back and either 25 Breast / 25 Fly Starts & Turns.
All 4 strokes with starts & Turns. Counts stroke cycles for each stroke on one timed 25. Legal 100 I.M.
Legal 200 I.M. Completes 25 of each stroke at same time or faster than Jr. Marlin level with one less stroke cycle.
Completes one length of each stroke holding the same time or faster using fewer cycles than previous level.
Legal 400 I.M. Can calculate, with assistance of coach, swim speed, stroke rate & distance per stroke (D.P.S.).
